Objective of the Committee:
The primary objective of establishing the MAPCU Community Service Committee is for member institutions to come together to champion certain social causes for the good of the community at large.
It is proposed that there shall be eleven (11) members in the Committee, comprising of the Chairperson (to be appointed by either the MAPCU AGM OR MAPCU GC), a Deputy Chairperson and a Secretary/Treasurer (to be chosen by the CSC) and eight (8) other members (to be elected at AGM) Various project subcommittees including partnerships with NGO’s, Industries & government agencies will be formed, as is deemed necessary, by the CSC.
It is expected that each institution will have its own community projects that it runs on a regular basis. The MAPCU CSC project will be one that champions a common cause that will be adopted by all participating MAPCU institutions for a particular year or any period of time.
For example, it is proposed that MAPCU CSC will have a long term project for Organ and Blood Donation that will be carried out every year. This is to encourage existing blood donors to donate regularly as well as to encourage new students to be donors.
In addition CSC may champion a particular cause for a given year to raise awareness among the public on certain issues such as cancer, smoking, stroke, etc. In such campaigns, it is important that the CSC form partnership with existing NGO’s or similar organizations. For example, for cancer, work with existing NGO’s such as National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), for organ donation with National Transplant Resource Centre (NTRC), for stroke with National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM), etc. These NGO’s can provide a lot of resources such as educational pamphlets, etc.
It must be emphasized that community service activities run by MAPCU member institutions should constitute an important and integral aspect of our students’ education and development towards becoming a responsible citizen of the country and of the world.
